Careful. We don't want to learn from this.*

"make new friends, but don't forget old,
new is silver, old is gold."

how many times have we come across this quote? several times? and yet, how much attention have we actually paid to it? maybe, for the first time - yes.. it did make sense. after that it became common.. innumerable text msgs, emails, scraps, from new friends, even unknown people, saying the same thing... a few words added / replaced dont make a difference to the essence of the lines. we came across them frequently enough to stop taking pains to even read the second line. it was enough for us to know that we'd read it once. "we know what it says, why bother?" very true...

but then we forgot the idea of Old being Gold.
the philosophy of "why bother?" became much easier to follow....

Knights' night

as the hour hand inched towards the 7 o clock mark, i was wondering if IPL would be anything more than an over hyped, money generating tournament. turns out it WAS all that - with a good amount of cricket ! there was a total of over 300 runs scored ! two-thirds of that being scored by the winning team... and never-seen-before economy rates of under 3 per over. whoever said that was impossible in a T20 game ?!?

the opening ceremony was among the most brilliant ones i have seen with Ravi Shastri surpassing his own brilliance as commentator and host.

as the match progressed, it was clear that the only thing that had gone in favour of the Bangalore Royal Challengers was the toss. from there, the Kolkata Knight Riders had it all their way.

Being put to bat by the captain of Royal Challengers, Rahul Dravid, the Knights made the highest total in a T20 match, for the loss of only 3 wickets as Brendon Mccullum showered the ecstatic crowd with 13 sixes, scoring a massive 158 - the highest individual score in a T20 game.
in reply, the Challengers barely managed to make 80 odd runs, almost a fourth of which were scored as extras.

the knight riders, despite the extras and mis fields, made a brilliant performance as Dada lead from the front taking a few wickets himself. Shah Rukh Khan and his bollywood brigade did their part in cheering the team... without them IPL would be .. ICL !!

the first match of the tournament was a great watch but the other teams sure have a very high standard to live up to ! and crowds - storming the stadium, roaring for more action - don't make it any easier.

i wonder why all big tournaments take place when i have exams!!...and why a great shah rukh khan fan dint go to see the match.... goes to show that some things never change .. and some other things.. well, they change even if u've never thought they could...

PS: i hated how MAX showed ads as soon as the over got over !!.. not even letting the commentator finish his sentence ! tsk tsk..

Finally !

after much contemplation...finally! a blog !
and i decide to call it Pop - after the wonderful sound hydrogen makes while burning.
