There is an implied adjective clause of place in that sentence (if I remember school wren and martin correctly) or whatever it is called. But why are you assuming its an implied 'with ourselves'? its an implied 'with them', just like the book example.

When you give someone your word, you should keep your word with that someone.
Whats the point of giving your book to someone if you don't keep the book with that person?
