I am a (proud) member of the debating society in my college and it happens to be the ONE place where we get to do something productive and, as the motto says, "break out" of our shells.
This weekend, we organized an event and it was a super hit! The response from the participants was overwhelming :) and the sponsors were glad that their money was put to good use ;) ... but most of all WE had the time of our lives :D . Planning, changing, sponsors, permissions, organising, t-shirts, sound systems, managing students, addressing queries, free food, frooti, and a fun-loving, joke-cracking society - they all fit together perfectly!
I thought I would never get to say this, but college isn't all that bad ;)
Yahaan bhi hai Wahaan bhi hai !

Trinaa tagged me again with The Quotations Tag where I have to write quotes from my favourite books.
(I have mentioned my obsession with quotes on a previous post. You have been warned.)
ATLAS SHRUGGED - Ayn Rand
1. Whatever we are, its we who move the world and its we who'll pull it through.
2. What greater wealth is there than to own your life and to spend it on growing?
3. I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.
4. "Hi, Slug." - "Hi, Frisco."
THE FOUNTAINHEAD - Ayn Rand
1. I've taught you a great deal and nothing. No one can teach you anything, not at the core, at the source of it. What you're doing - its yours. I can give you the means, but the aim - the aim's your own.
2. Howard Roark built a temple to the human spirit. He saw man as strong, proud, clean, wise and fearless. He saw man as a heroic being. And he built a temple to that.
3. We never need to say anything to each other when we're together. This is for the time we won't be together. I love you.
CALVIN AND HOBBES - Bill Watterson
1. Valuable minutes are disappearing forever even as we speak!! We've got to have more fun !!
2. Each moment I should be able to say, "I'm having the time of my life right now!"
3. Things are never quite as scary when you've got a best friend.
4. Moms and reasons are like oil and water
HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY - Douglas Adams
1. It is an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons.
2. Look, would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?
3. I think fish is nice, but then I think rain is wet, so who am I to judge?
4. All this way, all this trouble, all this not-lying-on-the-beach-having-a-wonderful-time, and for what?
5. "Out", he said. People who can supply that amount of firepower don't need to supply verbs as well.
Think Tank, if you don't mind, I'd like you to do the Quotes tag - coz i know you've read tens of thousands of books. Do it if you feel like. ;)

PS: I have another tag due. But all in good time, my friends...all in good time. ;)

Teachers' Day...
..came ... and went ... and nothing happened...!
Where were the celebrations?? We didn't even have the day off in college..! Maybe its not that shocking .. but I had forgotten that we don't get a holiday for Teachers' Day and was really getting excited about finally getting a holiday! :P
In school, we used to start practicing for the program several days in advance. It would be the class 9 students who organised a major part of the event - taking charge of the entire senior section – apart from class 10s who had their own special contribution. During our time in class 9, we chose the theme "Julius Caesar", which after all the twists and turns, became "Shakespeare in India" - a play that had all the characters of Julius Caesar, plus Kalidas, Shakuntala and Jankinath a.k.a. Jackey a.k.a. Trinaa !! The twist involved Brutus and Caesar falling in love with Shakuntala who was in love with Jackey, Calpurnia eloping with Marc Antony (played by yours truly), and Caesar waking from the dead and delivering killer Devdas dialogs. Some other 'killer' parts were: "Yes! My best friend, Julius Caesar!!" - Brutus' line inspired by the famous 'Friendly Wash Detergent' ad. (Do you remember it?)... and Calpurnia singing "Radha kaise na jale" on getting whiff of Caesar's love for Shakuntala.
Now that I think about it, it was almost a Bollywood masala flick with generous doses of heroes, heroines, love, jealousy, villains, wars, songs, 'inspirations' and awesomistic dialogs.
The spirit during that phase is truly memorable... - theme discussions. ideas. twists. actors. songs. dances. costumes. announcements. money. gifts. shorter classes. zero periods. the shed (the ultimate practise place). hushing up if we saw a teacher. whispering ideas when a teacher was around. fooling around. coming to school on off days for practice. dress rehearsals. staying back for decorating the hall. staff room. practice. practice. and more practice. things still messed up on the final day.... sigh .. how I missed all of this and much more...
oh wonderful school days ... I miss you ..!!
